MUTARE, 24 April 2026– Mutare City Rovers suffered their first defeat of the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League season, falling 3–1 to a ruthless Deportivo La Murambinda at Chisamba Ground yesterday afternoon.
The home side entered Matchday 6 with an unbeaten record, but were undone by a visiting outfit that delivered a commanding and disciplined performance to snatch all three points in front of a stunned crowd.
Deportivo La Murambinda set the tone from the first whistle, controlling possession and dictating the tempo with crisp passing and relentless high pressing. Their dominance was rewarded through clinical strikes from Baison Khumalo, Adu George, and Norest Masaririma, whose finishing proved decisive in dismantling the Mutare City defence.
Raymond Manangazira pulled a goal back for the hosts, briefly raising hopes of a comeback, but Deportivo’s organisation and composure in key moments ensured there would be no way back for City Rovers.
It was a statement victory for Lovemore Dzoro’s men, who bounced back emphatically from last week’s setback against Chivhu Stars FC.
“We really played very well today. The boys showed character and determination, especially coming off a defeat. It was important for us to respond like this,” Dzoro said. “I also want to thank the fans who travelled all the way from Murambinda. Their support gave the players extra motivation.”
Mutare City Rovers head coach Brian Mukundu cut a frustrated figure post-match, conceding his side fell short in crucial areas. He vowed to return to the drawing board as his team looks to regroup and protect their previously spotless campaign.
“We weren’t at our best and we paid for it. We have to address the mistakes quickly,” Mukundu said, his side now tasting defeat on home soil for the first time this term.
