MUTARE, 18 June 2026 – A domestic dispute allegedly centered on US$10 ended in tragedy on Wednesday evening when a Chikanga Phase 1 woman was reportedly beaten to death by her husband.

The deceased has been identified as Samantha Tshuma (41), while the suspect, Tawanda Muradzikwa (34), was arrested shortly after the incident and is being detained at Chikanga Police Station pending investigations.

Information gathered by The Wasu Post indicates that the incident occurred at the couple’s residence in Chikanga Phase 1 following an argument over money that had allegedly been left in the woman’s care.

Police sources said the money had reportedly been given to Samantha by her brother to buy food for the family. However, conflicting accounts have emerged regarding the circumstances that triggered the dispute.

Some community sources alleged that Muradzikwa had left US$10 with his wife earlier in the day. According to the sources, the woman allegedly spent US$8 on beer and was left with only US$2, a development that reportedly angered her husband when he returned home.

“The argument started over the money and quickly escalated. What began as a domestic disagreement ended in a tragedy that has left many residents shocked,” said a source familiar with the matter.

Residents who spoke to The Wasu Post described the couple as well-known in the neighborhood and said they were often seen socializing together at local drinking spots.

The alleged killing has sent shockwaves through Chikanga, with neighbors expressing disbelief that a dispute over such a small amount of money could end in the loss of a life.

Police sources confirmed that the suspect was apprehended soon after the incident. However, authorities have not yet released official details surrounding the circumstances of the woman’s death.

Efforts to obtain an official comment from the Zimbabwe Republic Police were unsuccessful. National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said he was attending a meeting and was unable to comment on the matter.

The incident has reignited concerns over domestic violence, which continues to claim lives across Zimbabwe despite ongoing awareness campaigns and calls for peaceful conflict resolution within families.

Investigations into the matter are continuing.

This is a developing story, and more details will be published as they become available.
