MUTARE – NetOne, in collaboration with the Environmental Management Agency (EMA), the Office of the President and Cabinet for Manicaland Province, Mutare Girls High School and other stakeholders, on Thursday conducted a community clean-up campaign in Mutare’s central business district as part of the national anti-litter initiative championed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Leading the exercise was Dr Zengeni, Vice Chairperson of the NetOne Board, who joined students, residents and officials in collecting litter from streets and public spaces. Her participation underscored the company’s commitment to environmental responsibility and community engagement.

The clean-up forms part of the country’s regular national clean-up programme, which seeks to promote environmental stewardship and sustainable development through collective action. Organisers said the Mutare campaign demonstrated how partnerships between government institutions, the private sector and communities can produce tangible results in maintaining cleaner urban environments.

In a statement following the event, NetOne reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that contribute to national development.

“As a proudly Zimbabwean organisation, NetOne remains dedicated to supporting national development priorities and initiatives that create lasting social and environmental impact,” the company said.

Officials emphasised that meaningful progress in environmental management depends on strong partnerships and active public participation. They noted that sustained community involvement is essential in creating cleaner, healthier and more sustainable environments for future generations.

The campaign brought together representatives from public institutions, the telecommunications sector, educational institutions and community volunteers, reflecting the multi-stakeholder approach that has become central to Zimbabwe’s national clean-up drive.

Local leaders welcomed the strong turnout and encouraged residents to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings beyond organised campaigns, stressing that environmental responsibility should become a daily practice rather than a periodic activity.
