Mutasa North, 02 February 2026 – Sagambe Primary School is once again at the center of controversy following new allegations against Thomas Tombo, a teacher and neighborhood watch officer.
Tombo has been accused of raping and impregnating a 36-year-old woman with a disability, identified as Prevy Kanera. The allegations came to light when Kanera’s relatives noticed her pregnancy in December, prompting inquiries into her situation.
According to sources, Kanera revealed that she had been invited by Tombo to collect maize cobs at the school last year, where he allegedly closed the door and raped her. She claimed Tombo paid her $100 to keep the assault a secret and warned her that, as a police officer, she would not succeed if she reported the crime. The abuse reportedly continued until she became pregnant.
This incident is not the first controversy surrounding Tombo. In early 2025, he faced complaints from the Ministry of Education regarding his involvement in an affair that led to the dissolution of a nearby resident’s marriage. After admitting guilt in village court, he was fined.
The ongoing concerns over Tombo’s behavior have caused significant unrest among parents at Sagambe Primary.
In 2025, many halted their children’s school fees, demanding the removal of both the headmaster and Tombo, alongside other administrative staff. The headmaster was eventually transferred late in 2025, but parents remain uncertain about changes under the new leadership.
While there is a sense of partial relief among the community with the arrival of a new headmaster, parents are skeptical about how effectively the new administration will address the ongoing issues, including the troubling allegations against Tombo.
The situation at Sagambe Primary continues to unfold, leaving many in the community demanding accountability and justice.
