MUTARE – The Mutare Youth Centre yesterday hosted a youth empowerment programme organised by Royal Studio Africa, where young leaders engaged in a mock parliament debate under the mentorship of industry professionals.
The event was led by Royal Studio Africa Chief Director, Dave Mamvura, who mentored the participants, encouraging them to develop critical thinking and leadership skills.
The mock parliament session saw junior parliamentarians debate a motion titled: “This House Proposes the Extension of Junior Parliamentarians’ Tenure Beyond Their Time in School and Their Tenures so as to Ensure that They Fulfill All Their Visions to the Full Participation and Beneficiation of the Community.”
Among the notable participants were Hon. Tatenda Obrey Maysean Mukukuwanda (Minister of Defence and National Security), Hon. Adele Mary Makoni (Minister of State for Devolutional Affairs) and Hon. Nicky Manunure (Minister of Skills and Auditing).
The debate was described as lively and informative, with junior MPs demonstrating deep knowledge on governance and community development issues. The exercise, organisers said, was meant to instill confidence, teamwork, and public speaking skills in the young leaders.
Mentors including Dave Mamvura, Fanuel Chinowaita, and Ishmael guided the discussions, helping the participants explore practical solutions to challenges faced by youths in their communities.
Mamvura said the initiative was part of Royal Studio Africa’s mission to prepare future leaders.
“We are creating a platform where young people can debate real-world issues, sharpen their skills, and build the confidence to take leadership roles in society,” he said.
The programme promoted collaboration among the youth and provided a safe environment for them to engage in national discourse.
Royal Studio Africa said it will continue to create platforms for young leaders to express themselves and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
