The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) Eastern Region will host this year’s Workers’ Day commemorations in Mutare on May 1, 2026, with activities scheduled to take place at Moffat Hall in Sakubva.

According to an official invitation, the commemorations will run from 08:30hrs to 14:00hrs under the theme “Constitutionalism, Social Justice: Workers United for Decent Work and Economic Empowerment.”

The programme is expected to begin with a procession starting at Chigomba Shopping Centre before proceeding to the main venue.

Organisers have called on workers, labour representatives and stakeholders from across Manicaland and beyond to attend the event, which is part of global May Day commemorations held annually to recognise the contribution of workers and advance labour rights.

Workers’ Day, observed worldwide on May 1, has traditionally been used by labour movements to push for improved working conditions, fair wages and social justice. In Zimbabwe, the ZCTU has consistently used the platform to highlight economic challenges affecting workers, including inequality and declining living standards.

The Mutare event is expected to feature solidarity messages, with participants encouraged to confirm attendance in advance to assist with logistical arrangements.

ZCTU officials said the commemorations will provide a platform for workers to unite and engage on key issues affecting livelihoods, employment conditions and economic empowerment in the country.

Your presence and participation, organisers noted, will be key in amplifying the workers’ voice during this year’s commemorations.
