MaBoozer Akarongeka Social League Takes Off in Manicaland

Mutare, 15 January 2026– The newly formed MaBoozer Akarongeka Social League (MASL) officially kicks off this Sunday, marking the beginning of a structured and transparent veterans’ football competition aimed at restoring order, discipline and enjoyment in social football across Manicaland.

Popularly known as MaBoozer Akarongeka, the league is strictly open to players aged 35 years and above, with organisers enforcing clear age-control measures.

League secretary Chris Mukweza

League secretary Chris Mukweza, also known as Mutepfura, said the establishment of MASL was driven by dissatisfaction among social teams who were previously paying affiliation fees without accountability.

“Teams were paying affiliation fees but were not seeing how the money was being used. This league is about transparency, order and giving players value for their money,” said Mukweza.

The league will accommodate a maximum of 10 teams, with each side expected to play two matches per month, mainly on Sundays. Matches will follow standard football rules, although flexibility is allowed in exceptional circumstances such as force majeure. Each team will contribute US$5 towards referees’ fees, with match officials assigned by a referee coordinator.

The inaugural Match Day One will be played on Sunday, with all matches starting at 2:30pm, a time deliberately chosen to avoid weather interruptions.

“We agreed to start games at 2:30pm to avoid rain disturbances. Usually around 5:30pm we start receiving some rains,” Mukweza explained.

The fixtures are as follows:
Zimbo vs Igwe (Zimunya High School)
Chipolopolo vs Rusape Crackers (St Dominics High School)
Forbes Border vs Juventus (Girls High School)
Avon vs Cracking Fathers (Mutare Junior School)
All Stars vs Blacks Hobhouse (Beit Hall Dvat)

MASL has adopted a zero-tolerance policy on violence and misconduct, with offenders facing immediate suspension and further disciplinary action. Appeals will be handled by a disciplinary committee upon payment of a US$10 appeal fee.
In line with the league’s social ethos, home teams are encouraged to host their opponents after matches, promoting unity, friendship and respect beyond the pitch.

The league is being supported by a growing list of local partners and sponsors, including: Liquor Tap Mutare, EBI Driving School, Bhuru, Belchar, Come Dine Restaurant and Navtech Electronics Store.

Organisers say more partners are expected to come on board as the league grows and gains visibility.

As the MaBoozer Akarongeka Social League begins its maiden season, the focus will be on responsible football, enjoyment, accountability and community building, setting a strong foundation for what is expected to become one of Manicaland’s leading veterans’ social football competitions.
