{"id":822,"date":"2025-07-23T01:41:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-23T01:41:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thewasupost.co.zw\/?p=822"},"modified":"2025-07-24T13:53:53","modified_gmt":"2025-07-24T13:53:53","slug":"manicalands-semvumba-arts-shines-at-chibuku-neshamwari-national-finals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thewasupost.co.zw\/index.php\/2025\/07\/23\/manicalands-semvumba-arts-shines-at-chibuku-neshamwari-national-finals\/","title":{"rendered":"Manicaland\u2019s Semvumba Arts Shines at Chibuku Neshamwari National Finals"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><br><em>By Fanuel Chinowaita<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" src=\"https:\/\/thewasupost.co.zw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Semvumba.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-823\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mutare, 23 July 2025 \u2013<\/strong> Manicaland province proudly secured third place at the <strong>2025 Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Finals<\/strong> held on Saturday at the <strong>Mutare Showgrounds<\/strong>, with local group <strong>Semvumba Arts<\/strong> delivering a spirited performance of the <strong>Dinhe Dance<\/strong> that captivated the crowd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Representing the host province, <strong>Semvumba Arts<\/strong> walked away with <strong>US$7,500<\/strong>, placing Manicaland on the national cultural map in a fierce competition that brought together Zimbabwe\u2019s best traditional dance troupes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the strong presence of ten other provincial groups, <strong>Semvumba Arts<\/strong> impressed judges and spectators with their graceful execution of Dinhe \u2013 a traditional Shona dance rooted in ancestral worship and rhythmic drumming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Green Stars<\/strong> from <strong>Harare<\/strong> claimed the national title and <strong>US$15,000<\/strong> in prize money with their outstanding performance of the <strong>Chinyambera Dance<\/strong>. <strong>Goromonzi Arts Club<\/strong>, representing <strong>Mashonaland East<\/strong>, came second and earned <strong>US$10,000<\/strong> for their captivating <strong>Mbende Jerusarema Dance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The festival also saw participation from groups across the country, including <strong>Undi Gure<\/strong> (Midlands) with Zambia Nyau, <strong>Katawa Traditional Dance<\/strong> (Mashonaland West) with Mhande, and <strong>Imvimbi Arts<\/strong> (Matabeleland North) with Umzansi Dance. <strong>Jeketera Renyaungwe<\/strong> from Masvingo performed the Mbira Dance, <strong>Sekusile Dance Group<\/strong> from Matabeleland South showcased Isitshikitsha, <strong>Guruve Marimba Stars<\/strong> represented Mashonaland Central, and <strong>Sekunjalo MaAfrica<\/strong> flew the flag for Bulawayo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2025 edition of Chibuku Neshamwari, sponsored by <strong>Delta Beverages<\/strong> in collaboration with the <strong>National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ)<\/strong> and the <strong>Zimbabwe National Traditional Dance Association (ZNTDA)<\/strong>, ran under the theme <strong>\u201cNgoma Ngairire Shamwari, Tshay\u2019sgubhu Mngane\u201d<\/strong>, highlighting unity through cultural celebration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adding to the festive atmosphere, music superstars <strong>Alick Macheso<\/strong>, <strong>Jah Prayzah<\/strong>, and <strong>Enzo Ishall<\/strong> lit up the after-party with explosive performances that kept the crowd dancing late into the evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event was a celebration of Zimbabwe\u2019s rich cultural tapestry, and <strong>Semvumba Arts\u2019<\/strong> strong showing affirmed <strong>Manicaland\u2019s<\/strong> place among the nation\u2019s traditional arts champions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Meanwhile<\/strong>, the spirit of the festival was dampened by tragedy after the finals, as <strong>Sekusile Sitshikitsha Dance Group<\/strong>, which represented <strong>Matabeleland South<\/strong>, was involved in a fatal road accident on <strong>July 20<\/strong> while returning home along the <strong>Gweru\u2013Bulawayo highway<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a statement from the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ), Zimbabwe National Traditional Dance Association (ZNTDA), and Delta Beverages, three group members <strong>Ms S. Mpofu<\/strong>, <strong>Ms I.T. Mike<\/strong> and <strong>Mr L. Mazara<\/strong> lost their lives in the accident:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group, made up of performers employed by How Mine in Mzingwane District, had just performed at the festival. Other members sustained various injuries and are receiving medical treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Organizers expressed deep condolences to the families and pledged to continue supporting the affected community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe loss leaves an irreplaceable void in our artistic community.
