The Maboozer Akarongeka Social League will host its inaugural end-of-season awards ceremony on Sunday, 8 November 2026, celebrating outstanding performers in its over-35 football competition.

The ceremony, scheduled for 6pm, will be held at Come Dine Restaurant and Bar, opposite Megawatt in Mutare.

The event will recognise the top three teams, with awards for champions, runners-up and second runners-up, alongside individual accolades for outstanding players and match officials.

Among the individual award winners announced ahead of the ceremony are Wonder Takaedzwa of Igwe Stars, who has been named Goalkeeper of the Season, while teammate Consider Chidyeni will receive the Top Striker award.

Blazio of All Stars has been named Best Defender, while John will receive the Best Referee award.

The Best Player of the Season is also expected to be recognised during the ceremony.

League organiser Frank Bhunu said the initiative was designed to bring together mature people through football while creating opportunities for social interaction and networking.

“Social leagues, we have done that. This is for people over 35 so they can network well because they are household families,” said Bhunu.

He said the league was open to more people in the age group who wished to become part of the initiative.

“We are also inviting boozers with over 35 years and above to join if they want,” he said.

Bhunu said the initiative sought to create an environment where people could interact, build friendships and strengthen social connections beyond the football pitch.

The awards ceremony will also feature food and drinks, with Come Dine Restaurant and Bar offering refreshments at premium prices.

The inaugural awards mark a milestone for the league as it seeks to establish itself as a platform for friendship, networking and social engagement among people aged 35 and above.
