The sugar had reportedly been packed into 2kg bags bearing fake Tongaat Hulett labels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Investigators also recovered a weighing scale and packaging equipment believed to have been used in the alleged operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The truck, sugar consignment and packaging equipment were seized and will be presented as exhibits in the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mutandwa is facing charges of fraud and violating the prohibition against the forgery of registered trademarks in terms of Section 84(1)(b) of the Trade Marks Act [Chapter 26:04].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She is expected to appear before the Harare Magistrates&#8217; Court on Monday, 31 August 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ZACC has warned members of the public against engaging in the repackaging of consumable products using counterfeit brand packaging and selling them as genuine products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The anti-graft body also urged consumers to exercise caution when purchasing food products by buying from registered retailers and checking packaging for signs of tampering, spelling errors and improperly sealed bags.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The case comes amid growing concerns over counterfeit and repackaged consumer goods, which can expose unsuspecting consumers to health and financial risks while undermining legitimate businesses and established brands.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Fanuel Chinowaita HARARE \u2014 A Harare woman has been arrested for allegedly running an illegal operation in which sugar was repackaged into bags bearing counterfeit Tongaat Hulett labels and sold as genuine products, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has confirmed.
