The identities of the remaining 10 victims are yet to be confirmed.

Among those identified are infants and children, underscoring the scale of the tragedy that has devastated communities living around Lake Kariba.

The victims include seven-month-old Jesmine Nduna, one-month-old Tehillar Matembe, four-year-old Rodrick Siamatonga, two-year-old Liar Mutale, four-year-old Alvin Mazhomba and five-month-old Bliss Simamba.

The passenger list also included villagers, traders and residents from Kariba, Siakobvu, Hurungwe, Chirundu and Binga, many of whom depend on water transport to connect isolated communities around the lake.

For communities along Lake Kariba, boats are a crucial transport link where poor road infrastructure makes travel by land difficult.

Police have urged families and members of the public with relatives or close associates still missing to report to their nearest police station or the Command Centre in Kariba to assist authorities in accounting for the remaining victims.

The latest identified victims include:

Identified on August 14: Jeremiah Chakabvapasi, Mereki Hwani, Tanatswa Ncube, Siadembe Richard Junior, Eken Kapandura, Beauty George, Noah Msaka, Trish Mangoroma, Lungulani Sianjema, Mitchel Jeke and 34 others.

Identified on August 18: Jesmine Nduna, Emurai Siakanoka, Netsai Inusa, Sithembile Msaka, Future Siamawe, Liar Mutale, Tehillar Matembe, Rodrick Siamatonga, Chenai Chilakola, Rongedzai Tauro, Ambila Msaka, Emmanuel Siampamba, Nokutenda Muivengwa, Alvin Mazhomba, Wishmore Junior Charindapanze, Matipaishe Siyachinene, Collice Samanyanga, Desley Ruvarashe Shereni, Michael Tapureta, Jennifer Matengambiri, Maruza Shambo, Liandra Makanyaire, Ashley Eric Muzunga, Student Makara, Luumono Siabwanda, Matilda Gwangwaba, Dolleta Jakarasi, Bliss Simamba and Felicia Mukwonka.

The police said identification of the remaining victims was being conducted in collaboration with their families and relevant authorities.

As the search continues, the disaster has raised fresh questions over passenger safety, enforcement of vessel capacity limits and the condition of water transport infrastructure serving communities around Lake Kariba.

By Fanuel Chinowaita KARIBA, Zimbabwe — The death toll from the Lake Kariba boat disaster has risen to 93, with 83 victims now positively identified by their next of kin, the Zimbabwe Republic Police has confirmed.
