Bulawayo, Zimbabwe \u2013 Two emerging female football coaches from Manicaland have been hailed after guiding the province’s Under-16 team to a perfect winning record at the BancABC Roots Impact Programme, marking another milestone in the growth of women’s football coaching in Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Irene Chawanda and Wendline Gowero were entrusted with leading the Manicaland Under-16 side during matches played in Bulawayo last week after the substantive coaches were unavailable due to a funeral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the late appointment, the duo rose to the occasion, steering the team to victories over Midlands and Matabeleland South to maintain a 100 percent record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision to hand the pair responsibility for the team was made by BancABC Roots Impact Programme board member Frank Bhunu, who said he wanted to give the young coaches an opportunity to prove themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We deliberately threw them into the deep end because we have confidence in the quality of coaches we are developing in Manicaland. They responded exceptionally well, winning both matches and demonstrating that they are ready for greater responsibilities. Their success is proof that investing in women coaches is paying dividends,” Bhunu told The Wasu Post.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Chawanda and Gowero are among a new generation of coaches being developed through the CAF coaching pathway in Manicaland. Both recently completed the CAF D Coaching Licence and are expected to enrol for the CAF C Licence course in December as they continue to advance their coaching careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their impressive start has strengthened confidence in the province’s coach development programme, which continues to produce qualified personnel capable of leading teams at competitive national tournaments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The achievements of the two coaches also come as Manicaland enjoys an outstanding campaign at the BancABC Roots Impact Programme, with the province remaining among the competition’s top-performing teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their success has been welcomed as further evidence that women are increasingly taking up influential technical roles in Zimbabwean football, paving the way for more female representation on the sidelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
