Prompt reporting enables police to investigate cases thoroughly and ensure perpetrators are brought before the courts,” he said.

On robbery, the senior police officer advised residents to avoid exposing valuables in public, improve security at their homes and business premises, and remain alert to suspicious activities within their neighbourhoods.

He also encouraged communities to revive neighbourhood watch programmes and strengthen cooperation with police as part of broader crime prevention efforts.

Speaking on murder, Chief Superintendent Shonhiwa called on residents to resolve disputes peacefully and desist from resorting to violence.

He said conflicts should be settled through lawful means, warning that acts of violence have devastating consequences for families and communities.

The Officer Commanding also raised concern over cases of missing persons, urging parents and guardians to closely monitor children and vulnerable relatives. He said missing persons should be reported to the police immediately, noting that early reporting significantly increases the chances of locating them safely.

Chief Superintendent Shonhiwa reaffirmed the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s commitment to community policing, saying strong partnerships between law enforcement and the public remain essential in preventing and combating crime.

He assured residents that information supplied to the police would be handled with appropriate confidentiality and encouraged continued cooperation in efforts to create safer communities.

The engagement at Gwinyiro Area forms part of the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s ongoing nationwide crime prevention campaign aimed at enhancing public awareness, strengthening police-community relations, and improving public safety.

By Fanuel Chinowaita Mutare, 6 July 2026 – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has intensified its community policing initiatives, with the Officer Commanding Mutare Central District, Chief Superintendent Rosum Shonhiwa, urging residents of Dangamvura to work closely with law enforcement agencies to curb crime.
