{"id":2352,"date":"2026-06-13T17:20:25","date_gmt":"2026-06-13T17:20:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thewasupost.co.zw\/?p=2352"},"modified":"2026-06-13T17:20:25","modified_gmt":"2026-06-13T17:20:25","slug":"ministry-launches-nationwide-hpv-and-td-vaccination-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thewasupost.co.zw\/index.php\/2026\/06\/13\/ministry-launches-nationwide-hpv-and-td-vaccination-campaign\/","title":{"rendered":"Ministry Launches Nationwide HPV and Td Vaccination Campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By Fanuel Chinowaita<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Zimbabwe<\/strong> \u2013 The Ministry of Health and Child Care will conduct an integrated Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and Tetanus-Diphtheria (Td) vaccination campaign from <strong>15 to 19 June 2026<\/strong>, targeting thousands of children across Zimbabwe in an effort to prevent cervical cancer, tetanus and diphtheria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The campaign will see the <strong>HPV vaccine administered to all girls in Grade Five and out-of-school girls aged 10 years<\/strong> to protect them against cervical cancer caused by the Human Papillomavirus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, the <strong>Td vaccine will be given to all boys and girls aged five years and 10 years<\/strong> to boost immunity against tetanus and diphtheria, two serious bacterial infections that can lead to severe illness and death if left untreated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the Ministry of Health and Child Care, the vaccines will be provided through <strong>schools, Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres and health facilities<\/strong> nationwide to ensure eligible children can easily access the services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Health authorities said the HPV vaccine is a safe and effective intervention that significantly reduces the risk of cervical cancer, one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women in Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ministry noted that while vaccination plays a critical role in prevention, it should complement other measures such as <strong>regular cervical cancer screening, sexual health education and abstinence among adolescents<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Medical experts have indicated that the HPV vaccine offers the greatest protection when administered before exposure to the virus, making immunization of young girls particularly important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Parents and guardians have been urged to ensure that eligible children receive the vaccines during the campaign period.
