Mutare, 4 April 2026<\/strong> – Assistant Commissioner Elliot Muchada yesterday led a road safety campaign in Mutare, urging motorists and the public to exercise caution as the holiday period approaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The campaign, held at Sakubva Musika Bus Terminus and Mutare Old Rank, brought together the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Manicaland Province and key stakeholders, including the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during the campaign, Muchada, who is responsible for Crime and Operations in Manicaland Province, warned drivers against reckless behaviour, particularly drinking and driving and overspeeding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDrivers must drive safely, desist from drinking and driving, and avoid overspeeding. These are major causes of road traffic accidents,\u201d said Muchada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also urged passengers to take responsibility for their own safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPassengers have every right to stop a drunk driver from driving them. Do not risk your lives by remaining silent,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Muchada further cautioned members of the public against using unregistered and unregulated transport commonly known as mishikashika, citing safety and insurance concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPeople should avoid boarding mishikashika because most of them are not insured, and this exposes passengers to serious risk in the event of an accident,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the holiday period begins, Muchada also called for peace and lawfulness among citizens.
\u201cLet us all be peaceful during this holiday. People should not engage in fights or steal from others. We want everyone to enjoy the holidays safely,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe Regional Manager for Mutare, Mr Ernest Muchena, was also present during the campaign, which aimed to promote road safety awareness and reduce accidents in Manicaland Province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
