MUTARE, 9 March 2026<\/em>\u2014 The spirit of compassion and community solidarity was on full display on Saturday night as residents gathered at Chikanga Hall for the Chikanga Constituency Charity Dinner, an annual initiative aimed at assisting less privileged members of the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The charity dinner, which has become a key event on the constituency\u2019s social calendar, is traditionally held in December each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, last year\u2019s edition was delayed and eventually held on Saturday, bringing together community members, leaders and well-wishers determined to support vulnerable families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the delay, organisers confirmed that the programme will still return to its usual schedule, with another charity dinner expected in December this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Guest of Honour at the event, the Member of Parliament for Chikanga Constituency Hon Lynnet Karenyi, said the gathering was not just about sharing a meal but about strengthening the values of compassion and responsibility within the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is a great honor to stand before you tonight as a Member of Parliament. As we gather not only to share a meal, but to share compassion, hope and responsibility,\u201d the legislator said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor those in our constituency who are less privileged, this dinner is more than an event. It is a reminder that a strong community is built when we look out for one another.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MP acknowledged that many families in the constituency continue to face economic hardships and limited opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMany families around us face daily challenges \u2014 lack of basic necessities, limited opportunities and difficult circumstances,\u201d the MP said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTonight, with your generosity, we take a step towards easing those burdens. Every contribution made here tonight, no matter how small or how big, will help bring relief, dignity and opportunity to those who need it most. Together, we are proving that kindness and unity still exist in our community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The charity initiative has already made a visible impact in local schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Funds raised from the previous charity dinner were used to purchase stationery for underprivileged learners in all primary schools within Chikanga Constituency as well as Beaulah Heights Secondary School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additional funds were also used to buy groceries for Chengetai Primary School.
Teachers from the beneficiary schools expressed appreciation for the support, saying it helped many learners who come from disadvantaged backgrounds.
A teacher at Chengetai Primary School said the assistance came at a crucial time for many families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are very grateful for the groceries and stationery that were provided through the charity dinner programme. Many of our learners come from vulnerable families and this support helped them concentrate better on their school work,\u201d the teacher said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Chikanga Primary School, educators said the stationery distribution ensured that disadvantaged learners were able to fully participate in their studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe support made a huge difference. Some pupils did not have adequate learning materials, so the stationery that was provided helped restore their confidence in class,\u201d a teacher said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Teachers at Mutare Adventist Primary School also commended the initiative for supporting education in the constituency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe would like to thank the organisers and everyone who contributed. The stationery given to learners helped them greatly and showed them that the community cares about their future,\u201d said a teacher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At St Joseph\u2019s Primary School, teachers said the programme helped ease the burden on struggling families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe cost of school materials can be difficult for some parents, so the support that came from the charity programme was greatly appreciated,\u201d a teacher said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, teachers at Beaulah Heights Secondary School said the initiative had a positive impact on learners who were struggling to access basic school materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are thankful to the organisers of the charity dinner for remembering our learners. The assistance helped many students who needed learning materials,\u201d said a teacher at the school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, the funds raised during the dinner will be directed towards purchasing groceries for less privileged families across Chikanga Constituency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the evening concluded, the event left a strong message about the power of collective action \u2014 that when a community comes together with compassion and generosity, it can bring meaningful change to the lives of those who need it most.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
