The annual event, chaired by Mr. John Torinto, highlighted generosity and a renewed commitment to extend support beyond the festive season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his address, Mr. Torinto emphasized the importance of evolving the initiative to address ongoing community needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis time we added more items to the hampers, and we are praying that God blesses us so we can do even more,\u201d Torinto said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year, the fund aimed to assist 2,000 people but managed to reach 1,000 beneficiaries\u2014an improvement from last year\u2019s 500. The program also donated wheelchairs and walking sticks to those with mobility challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Torinto thanked African Century Bank and other stakeholders for their contributions, highlighting the importance of partnerships in sustaining the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mutare Mayor Simon Chabuka echoed Torinto\u2019s sentiments and announced a shift from the Christmas-focused initiative to a broader \u201cMayor\u2019s Fund\u201d designed to address year-round challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s no longer just a Christmas fund but a Mayor\u2019s Fund because hunger is not limited to December\u2014it\u2019s an everyday challenge,\u201d Chabuka said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He urged residents to pay rates on time to help sustain such programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe urge residents to pay rates on time. Some of these items were bought using those funds,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event also brought life-changing support to individuals with disabilities. Elisher Katswa received a new wheelchair to replace his worn-out one, and Emmanuel Zvinawasha was given a walking stick to aid his mobility.
