MUTARE, 11 September 2025<\/strong>\u2013 President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday officially opened the 18th edition of the Sanganai\/Hlanganani\/Kumbanayi World Tourism Expo in Mutare, where more than 84 foreign buyers and 450 exhibitors from Zimbabwe and abroad are showcasing tourism opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister, Hon. Barbra Rwodzi, said this year\u2019s expo, the first to be held outside Bulawayo since its inception, had attracted buyers from at least 23 countries, making it one of the biggest tourism trade gatherings on the continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe 18th Sanganai in Mutare has brought together 84 foreign buyers and 450 exhibitors, both international and local, as well as tourist buyers from about 23 countries,\u201d Rwodzi said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Mnangagwa described the expo as a \u201cdynamic marketplace\u201d that connects Zimbabwe\u2019s tourism assets with global investors and tour operators. He said tourism was central to Zimbabwe\u2019s economic growth, contributing 15 percent to GDP in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTourism is a global powerhouse for economic development. Zimbabwe is riding this wave of growth by leveraging its unique blend of natural beauty, wildlife, heritage and cultural richness,\u201d Mnangagwa said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He commended the decision to host the expo in Mutare, saying it aligned with Government\u2019s Devolution Policy and showcased the hidden gems of the Eastern Highlands, including Nyanga, Vumba and Chimanimani.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mnangagwa also praised SMEs and youth innovators for their strong participation, urging them to use the platform to create new products and partnerships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Head of State further noted that Zimbabwe continues to be rated among the top destinations in Southern Africa, with the expo providing opportunities for marketing the country to new markets and investors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sanganai\/Hlanganani\/Kumbanayi Expo, which runs under the theme \u201cDevolving Sustainable Tourism Development, Our Future,\u201d is expected to result in contracts, investments, and partnerships that will benefit local communities and the national economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
