BEITBRIDGE – Police have arrested four suspects in two separate drug busts within a span of just ten days, seizing a combined total of over 920 kilograms of dagga.
The first operation took place on 28 March 2026. Acting on intelligence, police intercepted a Toyota Hilux at the Bubye Valley Conservancy entrance gate.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrests: “On 28/03/26, Police in Beitbridge arrested Archwel Mutanga (43), Shakemore Mugombe (36) and Brighton Mavusi (27) for unlawful possession of dagga.” He added that a search of the vehicle led to the recovery of “five bales and 63 cobs of dagga, with an approximate total weight of 230 kg.”
In a second, larger seizure just over a week later, authorities targeted a commercial truck.
“On 07/04/26, Police in Beitbridge acted on a tip-off and arrested a truck driver, Lazarous Chenjerai (52), for unlawful possession of dagga at the Beitbridge Border Post,” said Commissioner Nyathi. Detectives searched the truck, which was carrying assorted goods. Hidden within the trailer’s consignment, they found “34 bales of dagga weighing approximately 692 kg.”
Both investigations are ongoing as police intensify their crackdown on drug trafficking at the border post, using the hashtag #NoToDangerousDrugs.
