MUTARE – A horrific crash has just occurred at the BP service station near the Murambi turnoff, with one person confirmed dead on the spot.
According to eyewitnesses at the scene, a haulage truck veered off the road and slammed into the back of a BT-50. The smaller vehicle was carrying three people at the time of the impact.
· One person died instantly at the scene.
· Two others from the BT-50 sustained serious injuries and have been rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.
· The driver of the haulage truck was also injured and could not walk after the crash. He has since been rushed to hospital.
Emergency services remain on site as traffic is heavily affected along Takawira Street.
This latest tragedy comes just one day after another serious accident involving a haulage truck on Christmas Pass. In that incident, the truck lost its brakes while descending the mountain, veered off the road, and crashed into someone’s house.
Residents and motorists are now warning that the stretch – including the BP Murambi area and the Pass – is fast becoming a black spot.
“Two heavy truck accidents in two days, both with serious outcomes. Something has to be done,” said one bystander at the scene.
More details to follow as investigations continue.
