Police Condemn Mob Justice as Woman Assaulted Over Infidelity Claims in UMP

A disturbing case of mob justice has emerged from Uzumba-Maramba-Pfungwe (UMP), where a woman was stripped naked and violently assaulted over alleged infidelity, prompting condemnation from police as they warned against vigilante violence.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed the incident, which occurred on Friday, 20 February 2026, after a video of the assault circulated widely on social media.

In a statement, police said one of the suspected attackers, Tambudzai Manjera (24), has been arrested, while her alleged accomplice, Tanaka Manjera (22), remains at large.

“Reference is made to the video circulating on social media platforms in which two women are seen brutally assaulting a naked woman over infidelity allegations,” the ZRP said.

“The ZRP confirms that the incident occurred in Uzumba-Maramba-Pfungwe on 20 February 2026, and Tambudzai Manjera (24) has since been arrested in connection with this case. Her accomplice, Tanaka Manjera (22), is still at large.”

Police said investigations are continuing and reiterated that taking the law into one’s own hands is a criminal offence.

Meanwhile, in a separate assault case highlighting the growing concern over violent conduct, a 33-year-old man from Chegutu has been jailed for nearly two years.

Gibson Jamu was sentenced to 24 months’ imprisonment by the Chegutu Magistrates’ Court, with two months suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour, leaving him to serve an effective 22 months.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority, the offence occurred on 30 January 2026 at around 5.30pm at Bacluta Farm in Chegutu. The victim was relieving himself near a tree when Jamu, who was seated on a branch, confronted him.

Jamu assaulted the man by punching him in the face and striking him with an iron bar across the face and body. Members of the public intervened after hearing the commotion and rescued the victim, who sustained head and facial injuries.

The NPA urged the public to avoid senseless violence and encouraged people involved in disputes to seek peaceful resolution through mediation or lawful channels.
