Mashonaland East -In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at transforming Zimbabwe’s agricultural landscape, Madhumeni/Abalimisi for Agricultural Transformation and Economic Development, affectionately known as Madhumeni/Abalimisi for ED, has officially launched its operations in Mashonaland East Province.

During the launch event, National Chairperson Cde. Peter Nyeredzi declared, “We are committed to aligning grassroots agricultural initiatives with Government programmes and the ZANU PF ideology.”

He expressed appreciation to the ZANU PF Government, led by His Excellency, President Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, for fostering an environment that empowers grassroots initiatives. Cde. Nyeredzi remarked, “Madhumeni Awanimisi was born out of the understanding that agriculture must evolve from mere subsistence to a sustainable economic powerhouse.”

The affiliate aims to equip farmers with knowledge and encourage their active involvement across the agricultural value chain, highlighting that “the Land Reform Programme delivered land to the people, but Madhumeni Awanimisi ensures this land generates wealth and guarantees food security.”

Describing Mashonaland East as a pivotal province for national development, he stated, “Endowed with fertile soils and dedicated farming communities, this region holds immense potential to become a cornerstone of agricultural production.”

The priorities set by the affiliate include promoting innovative farming techniques, fostering value addition in agro-processing, and empowering youth and women in agriculture. Cde. Nyeredzi emphasized that “organized, informed, and supported farmers are vital for economic development,” noting that agriculture is progressing beyond mere survival to become a catalyst for innovation and nation-building.

Mr. Edson Makina, representing the Provincial Chairman for ZANU PF, underscored agriculture’s essential role in national prosperity. He stated, “With agriculture significantly contributing to our GDP and creating millions of jobs, Madhumeni’s initiatives are uplifting rural livelihoods.”

Echoing these sentiments, Mr. Mustvangwa Hudson from the Ministry of Lands remarked on the launch’s importance, stressing that aligning farmers with party ideology enhances coordination between the State and producers.

Local farmer Mrs. Winet Manyere welcomed the launch, stating, “While we’ve worked productively with Agricultural Business Advisory Officers, Madhumeni has addressed a critical gap by uniting us under one political and developmental vision.”

The launch of Madhumeni/Abalimisi for ED signifies a vital step in enhancing the relationship between Government policy and grassroots production, with a focus on integrating youth, women, and organized farmers into national agricultural initiatives aimed at boosting productivity, value addition, and economic growth in line with Vision 2030.
