Mutare, January 25, 2026 — In a remarkable act of community support, the ZANU PF affiliate group Mahwindi for ED has stepped up, contributing an impressive US$8,000 to cover school fees for 150 vulnerable primary students in Sakubva and Dangamvura.

This initiative aims to bridge the gap for children who are not currently benefiting from the government’s Basic Education Assistance Module (BEAM).

The initiative spanned 10 primary schools across Mutare and was spearheaded by Esau Mupfumi, a member of the ZANU PF Central Committee and Provincial DCC Secretary for Education, alongside Mahwindi for ED Chief Advisor Jealous Mukorera and Chairperson Hemen Nyika.

During the outreach event, Mukorera articulated the project’s core mission: to foster educational opportunities and combat the pervasive issues of drug and substance abuse among youth.

“Our vision is seeing children attending school, achieving great heights in their lives, and steering clear of harmful substances like guka and mutoriro,” expressed Mukorera. “While some of us may not have had the best educational experiences, we are dedicated to ensuring our children receive a quality education and a brighter future.”

He emphasized that investing in education is crucial for tackling the myriad social challenges faced by high-density communities, including drug addiction and criminal activity.

School officials warmly embraced the program, hailing it as both timely and impactful. Mr. Maponga, Deputy Headmaster of Chirowakamwe Primary School, wholeheartedly commended the initiative: “God must bless Mahwindi for ED for this effort. This kind of work will significantly help keep children in school.”

Mr. Charles Sithole, headmaster at Sheni Primary School, echoed this sentiment, stating, “We are thrilled to witness Mahwindi for ED in action. With many children facing potential exclusion from school due to fees, this support provides much-needed relief for both students and their families.”

The beneficiary schools include Zamba, Sakubva, Dangare, Chisamba, Rujeko, Gimboki, Chirovakamwe, Sheni, Dangamvura, and Mutanda primary schools, with financial assistance tailored to the needs of each school’s vulnerable learners.

At Chisamba Primary School, educators highlighted the story of a student living with his family in rugged mountainous conditions due to housing insecurity. In response, Mahwindi for ED officials pledged to help secure rented accommodation for the family and aid in finding employment for the student’s mother.

This initiative is part of Mahwindi for ED’s broader community outreach efforts in Manicaland Province, aligning with government initiatives to ensure that education remains accessible to all vulnerable children.
