Mutare 24 January 2026 – A local businessman from Hobhouse high-density suburb was found dead yesterday in Paulington, near Green Market, in an incident that has shocked the Mutare community and prompted a police investigation.
The deceased has been identified as Tichaona Mazanhi, who was scheduled to appear before the Mutare Magistrates’ Court yesterday in connection with an ongoing legal matter. His death, occurring shortly before the expected court appearance, has raised concern among residents and associates.
According to preliminary information, Mr. Mazanhi’s body was discovered near a tree in the Paulington area. Police officers attended the scene and launched investigations to establish the cause and circumstances surrounding the death.
Police have not confirmed whether the death was self-inflicted or the result of foul play. Authorities said a full investigation is underway and that further details will be released in due course.
Unconfirmed reports circulating within the community allege that Mr. Mazanhi had recently been involved in a dispute over business assets allegedly confiscated by another local businessman known as Bhasera, who is involved in fuel trading. However, police have not verified these claims and have not linked the alleged dispute to the incident.
Law enforcement officials have urged the public to refrain from speculation and the spread of unverified information while investigations continue.
