Mutare,  11 January 2026– Funeral services company Nyaradzo has confirmed an incident involving the mix-up of two bodies, as Edna Mufambi (100) was finally reburied yesterday in Bocha, under Sabuku Muzondo, following an exhumation carried out in Checheche on Friday.

The confirmation comes after days of uncertainty for Mufambi’s family, who had reported that the centenarian’s body had been mistakenly buried in Checheche instead of her intended burial site.

In a statement to The Wasu Post, Nyaradzo acknowledged the error and expressed regret over the distress caused.

“Nyaradzo Funeral Services can confirm that an unfortunate incident involving the mix-up of two deceased persons occurred at one of our facilities. We deeply regret the distress this has caused to the families involved,” the company said.

Nyaradzo said it acted immediately once the error was identified and engaged relevant authorities.
“Immediately after the error was identified, we notified the relevant authorities and have been cooperating fully with all required procedures,” the statement read.

The company said it has been working closely with the affected families while corrective processes were underway.

“We are engaging closely with the affected families to offer support, guidance, and any assistance needed during this difficult time,” Nyaradzo said.

The latest development is that Mufambi’s remains were reburied today in Bocha, bringing closure to the family after the exhumation conducted yesterday in Checheche.
Nyaradzo declined to provide further details, citing the emotional state of the families involved.

“We respectfully ask for understanding as the matter involves families who are grieving and already under great emotional strain. We therefore wish to protect their privacy and dignity,” said Tendayi Gwatiringa, Nyaradzo Group Head of Strategic Solutions and Corporate Affairs.

The funeral services provider confirmed that all actions taken were lawful.

“All steps now being taken, including those relating to the lawful procedures currently underway, are being handled through the appropriate authorities and in consultation with the families,” the statement said.

Mufambi died of old age on 31 December 2025 in Hobhouse 1, Mutare. Her burial had initially been scheduled for 4 January 2026 but was delayed after the alleged mix-up was discovered.

Further developments are expected as authorities conclude the matter.
