Mutare, 5 January 2026– The family of Edna Mufambi (100), who died on 31 December 2025 in Hobhouse 1, Mutare, is demanding answers after alleging that her body was misplaced by Nyaradzo Funeral Services and mistakenly buried in Checheche.
Relatives said Mufambi died of old age and was taken by Nyaradzo after her death. However, when the family went to collect her body for burial, they were allegedly shown a corpse that did not belong to their relative.
“Our relative died because of old age, but when we went to collect her body, we were shown someone who was not ours,” a family member told The Wasu Post.
The family further alleged that Mufambi’s body had already been buried in Checheche by mistake.
“We were later told that her body was buried in Checheche. Nyaradzo has told us they are now organising to exhume the body so that she can be reburied in Bocha,” the relative said.
Mufambi was supposed to be laid to rest on 4 January 2026 at her rural home in Bocha, under Sabuku Muzondo, before the alleged mix-up disrupted funeral arrangements.
The Wasu Post could not obtain comment from the family whose body was allegedly taken and buried instead of Mufambi’s, as they were nowhere to be found by the time of publication.
Efforts to get an official response from Nyaradzo Funeral Services Mutare branch were unsuccessful. Branch management declined to comment, saying they were not authorised to speak to the media.
“We are not allowed to talk to the media. You can write a formal request,” a Nyaradzo official said.
By the time of publication, Nyaradzo had not issued a public statement, while arrangements for the alleged exhumation were reportedly underway.
