Two Killed After Runaway Truck Ploughs Into Pedestrians in Sagambe

Sagambe – Two people were killed while another was seriously injured on Monday morning when a truck rolled and ploughed into pedestrians at Sagambe business centre in Mutasa District.

The truck, a tomato-laden lorry popularly known by its nickname “Tanha Dzaunosvikira”, reportedly rolled downhill after being left unattended while in gear, eyewitnesses said.

Among the deceased is Pamela Munyapa, who died on the spot, while another victim identified as Samugiyo also succumbed to injuries. The third victim, Bhura Chinda, sustained broken legs and was rushed to Mutare General Hospital where he is receiving treatment.

The truck belongs to a Nyanga-based vendor, only identified as Mugiyo, who regularly transports tomatoes to Sagambe for resale.

Police in Mutasa are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
