Mutare – New information has surfaced regarding the fatal train accident that occurred on August 13, 2025, near Jeff Road along the Mutare railway line.

The accident, which happened at approximately 10:05 am, claimed the life of 24-year-old Morelife Manyau of House Number 8157, St. Joseph’s Park. Manyau was struck by a train driven by Thomas Flavio, a driver from Machipanda Station in Manica, Mozambique.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) attended the scene, and provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the incident. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are ongoing.

According to sources close to the family, Manyau is reported to have had a disagreement with his father on the day of the accident, although the nature of the dispute has not been disclosed. In a tragic twist, relatives say his other brother also died in a similar manner two years ago in Rutenga after being hit by a train.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that Manyau may have been involved in drug use. Investigators are looking into several possibilities, including whether he may have committed suicide, was distracted by earphones, or if it was a tragic accident.

Police have urged members of the public to stay away from railway tracks and to remain alert near train crossings.
