Gusha Bhora Hit Seven-Game Unbeaten Mark After Narrow Win Over Mazodze

Mutare City Rovers extended their unbeaten streak to seven matches in the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League after edging FC Wangu Mazodze 2-1 in a spirited Week 19 fixture at Gaths Mine Stadium on Sunday.

The victory, built on a blistering start, saw Rovers—affectionately known as Gusha Bhora—tighten their grip on a top-half position with 32 points, while Mazodze’s struggles deepened as they slumped to a fourth straight defeat.

From the onset, the contest had the hallmarks of an intense regional clash, with the Gaths Mine terraces buzzing under the roar of rival chants. Rovers wasted no time in stamping their authority. In the 10th minute, Tinashe Mangezi finished off a well-orchestrated move to break the deadlock, and just two minutes later, Morgan Manyadza pounced on a defensive lapse to make it 2-0.

Mazodze, known as the Kingdom Boys, fought back through a moment of individual brilliance from Nicholas Muchadei in the 21st minute, setting the stage for a tense remainder of the match. Despite sustained pressure and several clear chances, they failed to breach the Rovers defence again.

Reflecting on the defeat, Mazodze interim coach Emion Maganga lamented his side’s shaky start.

“We made mistakes in the opening minutes and got punished. We were unfortunate not to convert the chances we created,” he said.

Rovers’ Head Coach Prince Tafirenyika credited his team’s preparation and resilience.

“We predicted the early goals, but complacency let them back into the game. In the second half we reorganised and made it difficult for Mazodze. I’m proud of the players, the technical team, and our loyal supporters,” he said.

With momentum on their side and confidence growing, Gusha Bhora will be looking to extend their unbeaten run when league action resumes next week.
