Mutare, 2 August 2025 – Mutare City Rovers put on a commanding display at Sakubva Stadium yesterday, securing a confident 2-0 win over Manica Diamond U19 in a spirited league clash.

The match kicked off with both sides battling for early control, but it was the hosts who made the breakthrough. In the 30th minute, Morgan “Morgiza” Manyadza found the back of the net with a clinical finish, sending the home crowd into celebration.

Rovers doubled their advantage just before the break when Raymond “Ballo” Manangazira converted a well-orchestrated move in the 44th minute, giving his team a comfortable 2-0 lead at halftime.

Despite a spirited second-half effort from Manica Diamond U19, Mutare City Rovers’ defense remained disciplined and resilient, effectively shutting out any real threats. While both teams pushed for more goals, the scoreline remained unchanged as Rovers held firm to take all three points.

Speaking to The Wasu Post, Mutare City Rovers Secretary General Johannes Kwangwari praised the team’s performance:

“I was very impressed by the composure and style of play. It was fascinating to watch. However, we need to be more clinical in front of goal. The chances we missed could have made the result even more convincing.”

Head coach Prince Tafirenyika echoed similar sentiments, saying:

“Scoring twice in the first half gave us good control of the game. We’re taking each match as it comes, and it’s encouraging to be collecting points consistently. There’s light at the end of the tunnel.”

Meanwhile, Manica Diamond U19’s stand-in coach Benjamin Marere acknowledged his team’s effort despite the loss:

“The boys played well overall. The goals we conceded were avoidable – simple mistakes. But we’ll learn from them and build going forward.”

The fans were equally pleased with their team’s performance. Gerald Nyandoro, a loyal supporter, remarked:

“The boys are playing entertaining football and getting results, both home and away. We’re building a strong side for next season. That said, we need to be more ruthless in front of goal. We could have scored five or six today. KuMazodze handisari ndanakirwa nebhora! (I won’t miss the Mazodze match—I thoroughly enjoyed today’s game.)”

The win gives Mutare City Rovers a timely confidence boost as they prepare for their next fixture against FC Wangu Mazodze at Mucheke Stadium. With momentum on their side, fans will be watching closely to see if the Rovers can continue their charge in what’s shaping up to be a promising season.
