MUTARE; 15 July 2025Royal Studio Africa successfully launched the first-ever Manicaland Provincial Debate Tournament on Friday, hosting the event at Herentals Group of Schools and College in Mutare. The milestone occasion was made possible with the support of Mr. Kucherera and the Herentals College Executive, who provided the venue and logistical assistance.

The debate tournament brought together 70 students from across Manicaland, grouped into 30 teams, and featured heated intellectual battles using the British Parliamentary format—pitting four teams with eight speakers per round.

Out of the 70 participants, four teams stood out, qualifying for the finals and outshining 62 other students in the process. The top teams represented:

Hartlane Christian College (2 teams)

Herentals Group of Schools and College (1 team)

Alpha High School (1 team)

The tournament was initiated by David Mamvura, founder and president of Royal Studio Africa, with Mr. Mangezi serving as the event’s Chief Secretary.

“This tournament proves that Manicaland has brilliant young minds. Debate is more than a competition—it’s a tool for leadership, confidence, and national dialogue,” said Mamvura.

Participating schools included:Herentals Group of Schools and College, Alpha High School, Leadermould Entrepreneurship College and Hartlane Christian College

Among the outstanding performers was Tatenda Mudondo, a Form 1 student from Leadermould Entrepreneurship College, who impressed the adjudicators and was awarded Best Public Speaker. Nigel Nherera and Michael Mupawayenda were named Best Debaters for their sharp reasoning and persuasive delivery.

Royal Studio Africa, registered under the Ministry of Youth, Empowerment and Vocational Training, promotes youth development through ICT, communication, and advocacy. The organization oversees the debate tournament and manages the selection of host schools.

Buoyed by the overwhelming response to this debut edition, Mamvura confirmed plans to expand the initiative.
“This is just the beginning. We are igniting a culture of critical thinking and excellence,” he said.
