CHIPINGE | 5 June 2025 – The Castle Black Label Pool Tournament held at Club Pub 106 on Saturday brought the small town of Chipinge to life, as dozens of cue sport enthusiasts gathered to witness intense competition, cold brews, and thrilling entertainment.

The event, which kicked off at 11:30 AM and ran into the early hours of Sunday at 12:15 AM, attracted a vibrant crowd of about 280 spectators. It featured 6 pool tables and drew participation from 70 male and 8 female players, out of 151 and 19 registered competitors, respectively.

In the men’s category, Jabulani Taundi emerged victorious and pocketed $250 plus five crates of Castle Black Label.

“I’m very happy,” said Taundi after his win. “The game was so tight, but I was determined to win. I want to thank my team for the support they kept me going.”

He was followed by Maxwell Fungani, who walked away with $100, while Isheanesu Zendera came third and won two crates of Black Label. Pedzisai Mayana clinched fourth position and took home a case of 440ml Black Label.

In the women’s division, Stabile Dhliwayo claimed the top spot and received $250 and five crates of Black Label. She was followed by Prudence Peresu, who earned $100 and three crates of beer.

“All was fine. I have nothing to complain about. I’m happy,” said Peresu.

Ashleigh Kaugora and Rudo Chinyanganya secured third and fourth place, respectively.

Both Taundi and Dhliwayo have qualified to represent Chipinge at the CBL Pool Tournament national finals in Bulawayo, where they will compete with the country’s best.

The atmosphere was electric throughout the day, with Castle Black Label (CBL) recording record sales—selling four 30-litre kegs and 105 cases of beer during the event. Organizers and patrons hailed the tournament as a resounding success.

“The crowd, the games, the vibe everything was top-tier. Consumers were very pleased to be part of the tournament,” said one of the organizers.

With a growing passion for pool in the region, Chipinge has firmly placed itself on Zimbabwe’s recreational sports map.
