Police Arrest Suspect in Nyanga Over Stolen Cattle Worth Over US$1,700

Nyanga, Zimbabwe – Police in Nyanga have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with a stock theft case involving 11 cattle stolen from Jani Village, Katerere, Ruwangwe.

According to a statement from the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Sylvester Tembo was apprehended on May 8, 2025, following investigations into the theft that occurred during the night of May 7. Police allege Tembo, together with accomplices identified as Wellington Mupezeni and a man only known as Nigel, stole the cattle and later sold them to Edson Gotekote in Sabamba Village for US$1,740.

The arrest led to the recovery of the stolen livestock and US$500 cash, which Tembo had reportedly received as his share of the proceeds.

Police say the other suspects are still at large and have appealed to members of the public with information to report to the nearest police station.

Stock theft remains a serious offense under Zimbabwean law, with authorities intensifying efforts to curb the crime in rural areas.
