Mutare, 04 February 2025 – Mutare City Council has announced a 5% increase in tariffs for 2025, following approval from the Minister of Local Government. The adjustments, which will take effect this February, are aimed at improving service delivery across the city.
Speaking at a press briefing yesterday, Town Clerk Blessing Chafesuka highlighted that the budget was developed after thorough consultations with residents last year. He assured residents that the council remains committed to enhancing infrastructure and essential services.
Under the new budget, special road rates have been adjusted to ensure better road maintenance. High-density areas will see a change from $1.09 to $2.26, low-density areas from $2.39 to $9.16, and commercial and Institutional areas from $11.91 to $51.00 and Industrial to $226. These adjustments will contribute to expanding road rehabilitation efforts across the city.
Chafesuka noted that in the previous year, the council was able to maintain 1.5 km of roads out of 25 km needing repair. With the new budget, the target is to maintain 7 km per year, marking a significant improvement in road infrastructure development.
He encouraged residents to support this new direction by paying their rates on time, assuring them that the funds collected would be used to enhance service delivery for the benefit of all.
