Bathroom Vandalism Rocks Muchena, Sakubva

Mutare – 28 January 2025 – The recently repaired public bathrooms in Muchena, Sakubva, have been vandalized, with taps and showers stolen in what is suspected to be an attempt to sell the brass fixtures to recycling companies. The City of Mutare had refurbished the facilities just last week.

Ward 4 Councillor Edson Kalulu has condemned the act, appealing to residents to safeguard the shared amenities. “These bathrooms are for everyone, and it is everyone’s duty to ensure they are not vandalized. I urge the community to stop these destructive practices and take responsibility for protecting our resources,” the councillor said.

In response, the City of Mutare has announced plans to implement high-security measures to curb further vandalism. Among the proposals is the installation of a floodlight with an alarm system to deter theft and ensure the safety of the facilities.

Residents have expressed frustration at the recurrent vandalism, which they say undermines efforts to improve their living conditions. Authorities are calling on the public to report any suspicious activity around the facilities to assist in protecting community infrastructure.
