Residents of Zimunya, Chigodora, and surrounding areas have been assured by the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) that electricity will be restored by tomorrow, Friday.
In a statement issued by ZETDC, the ongoing power outage was attributed to a mainline fault caused by heavy rains, which has left several areas, including Fern Valley, Lower Vumba, Rowa, and Gombakomba, without electricity since January 7.
ZETDC acknowledged the inconvenience caused and stated that engineers are “working flat out” to address the issue. “Our teams are working to ensure full restoration of service in the shortest possible time. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused,” read part of the statement.
Residents, who have endured almost a month without power, expressed mixed reactions to the announcement. Many remain skeptical, citing previous delays in addressing similar issues during the rainy season.
Businesses in the area have also suffered losses due to the prolonged outage, with some forced to dispose of perishable goods and operate on costly generator power.
ZETDC has advised customers to treat all circuits as live, as power may be restored without prior notice. The company’s latest assurance offers hope to residents who have been grappling with the dual challenge of electricity and water shortages.
The Wasu Post will continue monitoring the situation and provide updates as they unfold.
