SAKUBVA , 15 January 2025 – A wave of unrest hit Zamba Primary School in Sakubva yesterday as angry parents demonstrated against the newly transferred deputy headmistress, Ms. Gowora, accusing her of satanism.
The demonstration disrupted school operations as parents barred children from entering the premises, demanding immediate action against Ms. Gowora, who was previously stationed at Nyamauru Primary School in Dangamvura.
Efforts by The Wasu Post to get a comment from the accused headmistress were unsuccessful, as she was reported to have gone to the district education offices to file a report on the incident.
A teacher at Zamba Primary School, speaking on condition of anonymity, expressed skepticism about the accusations.
“I wonder where the parents are getting this information from. If we investigate thoroughly, we might find out who started this rumor,” the teacher said. “Even the placards being used by the parents could reveal who orchestrated this protest.”
Ward 4 Councillor Edson Kalulu confirmed the incident and provided additional details.
“It is alleged that Ms. Gowora was involved in suspicious activities in Dangamvura, which led to her transfer. Upon hearing this, parents in Sakubva mobilized themselves and staged a protest, singing songs denouncing her as a satanist,” Kalulu said.
The Councillor added that although the headmaster did not organize the protest, parents acted on their own.
“The parents’ decision should be respected,” he said. “Even representatives from some organizations who came to witness the protest said that if she was rejected in Dangamvura for alleged satanism, the same should apply here in Sakubva.”
Officials from the Ministry of Education, the School Development Committee (SDC), and the police convened a meeting at the school in an attempt to resolve the matter. The outcome of the meeting had not been made public at the time of publication.
Classes at Zamba Primary School remained suspended as tensions continued to simmer, with parents vowing not to allow Ms. Gowora to assume her new post.
