Mutare.04 December 2024 Mutare City Council has embarked on addressing a long-standing drainage problem in Chikanga Phase 3, Ward 1.
The drain, which has posed significant challenges for residents and schoolchildren, is now undergoing construction work to improve accessibility and safety.
The project, initiated under the directive of Ward 1 Councillor and Deputy Mayor John Nyamhoka, involves digging and reinforcing the drain with stonework on the sides.
For years, the drain has been a hazard, especially during the rainy season, making it difficult for pedestrians, including schoolchildren, to cross.
“We are prioritizing issues that directly affect the community’s daily life. The drain has been a safety concern for too long, and we are finally addressing it,” said Councillor Nyamhoka during a site visit.
In addition to the drain project, Mutare City Council has also launched a program to grade the dusty roads in various parts of the city. The program began today in Chikanga Phase 3, also in Ward 1, as part of broader efforts to improve infrastructure and living conditions in the area.
Residents have welcomed these initiatives, expressing hope that they mark the beginning of more developmental projects in their community. “This is a step in the right direction. We hope the council continues to prioritize our needs,” said one resident.
The projects underscore the council’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure in Mutare’s residential areas.
