Mutare, 9 August 2025 – Chikanga Secondary School has received a state-of-the-art Biochemistry and Science Laboratory, a milestone hailed as a game-changer for science education in the constituency.
The facility was officially handed over on Thursday by Chikanga Member of Parliament Lynette Karenyi, who funded the project through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Addressing guests that included Ministry of Education officials, school authorities, councillors, parents, and students, Honourable Karenyi said the laboratory was a symbol of the community’s commitment to empowering young people with skills needed in the digital era.
“This laboratory represents more than just a facility – it symbolizes our collective commitment to empowering the next generation with the tools and knowledge they need to succeed,” she said. “I urge the school to look after this facility for future generations while nurturing a culture of curiosity and excellence.”
Karenyi praised all stakeholders involved in the project, including the CDF committee, contractors, and the school administration, adding that she envisioned the laboratory becoming a hub of innovation and learning.
School headmaster Mr. Peter Madera applauded the MP for “giving back to the community,” noting that the development could help Chikanga Secondary attain high school status. His sentiments were echoed by Ministry of Education official Mr. Mapungwana, who referred to the institution as “Chikanga High School” and confirmed that the Ministry would not hesitate to upgrade its status.
Ward 14 Councillor Patrick Masenyama, who facilitated the request for the laboratory, expressed gratitude to Karenyi for responding positively, saying the constituency had achieved “a bigger milestone.”
The laboratory, installed by Lab Legends, comes fully equipped with science apparatus, chemicals, enzymes, and medical consumables.
Parents welcomed the development, with one saying the facility would open new opportunities for learners. “I am very happy because our children will now learn sciences and become doctors,” the parent said.
A Chikanga Secondary School student said the facility would change perceptions about the school. “Some people were looking down upon our school, but with this development, we will be at another level,” the student said.
The event was attended by Deputy Mayor Alderman Nyamhoka, Councillor Sekai Mukodza, and Councillor Sarah Manjengwa.
