| Mutare | May 21, 2025 – Murahwa Primary School in Chikanga has received a donation of 240 chairs and 24 desks from Honourable Lynette Karenyi, the Member of Parliament for Chikanga Constituency.
The handover ceremony took place on Friday afternoon, with the furniture purchased through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Speaking during the event, Hon. Karenyi said the donation is part of ongoing efforts to improve the quality of education in the constituency.
“This is more than just a delivery of desks and chairs; it is a strong step towards creating a better learning environment for our children. This contribution surely makes a lasting difference,” she said.
The handover was attended by education officials, school authorities, and community members. Representing the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Mr. Mapungwana expressed gratitude to the MP for prioritizing the education sector.
“We thank Hon. Karenyi for remembering the education sector. Such contributions go a long way in improving the learning environment,” said Mapungwana.
Creezin Sithole Chofamba, City of Mutare Educational Officer, echoed similar sentiments, stating that the MP’s support makes it easier for schools and communities to address educational needs.
Murahwa Primary School headmaster Mr. Zvondaitirwa also welcomed the donation, saying the school will now redirect funds meant for furniture to other pressing needs.
“This gesture eases our burden. We will use the tuition fees collected for other school developments,” he said.
In a statement released after the handover, Hon. Karenyi gave an update on the CDF projects undertaken in Chikanga. These include the tiling of the science block and ablution facilities at St. Mary’s High School and the fitting of a combined Biology and Chemistry laboratory at Chikanga Secondary School.
While acknowledging ongoing challenges, including unresolved infrastructure issues like bridges, Hon. Karenyi emphasized that limited resources have made education the top priority for CDF spending.
She pledged continued consultation with residents and pursuit of partnerships to further improve the constituency.
