An 18-year-old man from Chinyamatikiti Village under Chief Chamutsa in Buhera died on October 20 after allegedly ingesting an unknown poisonous substance following a counselling session with family members and a neighbour.
The deceased, identified as Fidelity Nemadire, reportedly took the substance at around 8am after being called by his grandmother, Cathy Dube, 70, to attend a counselling session at the home of their neighbour, Nemapare Taironza.
During the session, Nemadire allegedly indicated that he would kill himself if the counselling continued.
He reportedly went to his room, took a plastic container holding an unknown poisonous substance and told Ray Nemadire, 48, of the same village that he intended to take his own life.
Fidelity then ran towards the Deure River while ingesting the substance.
Ray followed him and found him lying on the ground with froth coming from his mouth.
He took Nemadire back home, where he was discovered to be dead upon arrival.
ZRP Manicaland Acting Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the incident.
The body was subsequently taken to Birchenough Police Post and is currently at Beitbridge Hospital awaiting a post-mortem examination.
