HARARE, September 4, 2026 — Telecommunications giant NetOne has stepped up its environmental campaign, deploying teams across four cities as it joined the countrywide National Clean-Up Day and backed President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s drive for a cleaner Zimbabwe.
The campaign, held on Friday, saw NetOne teams participate in clean-up activities in Harare, Masvingo, Chitungwiza and Mutare, extending the company’s environmental push beyond the capital.
In Harare, NetOne joined other ICT sector players, including ZARNet, TelOne, Zimpost and the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ), at the main clean-up event hosted at TelOne headquarters.
NetOne Acting Public Relations Manager Thamsanqa Luphahla said the company regarded environmental responsibility as a long-term commitment rather than a once-off corporate social responsibility exercise.
“We applaud His Excellency and his administration for providing this platform that allows corporates and citizens alike to contribute meaningfully to the environment we all share,” Luphahla said.
“NetOne takes this responsibility seriously — we are not merely participants; we are champions of this cause.”
The National Clean-Up Day is observed on the first Friday of every month, following its institutionalisation in 2021.
NetOne said it has continued participating in the programme as part of its sustainability strategy extending to 2030.
Luphahla said the decision to operate in multiple cities reflected the company’s intention to make environmental awareness a national effort.
“This is not a Harare affair; it is a Zimbabwe affair,” he said.
“From Gweru to Mutare, from Chitungwiza to the capital, our teams are out there every first Friday, not because we have to, but because we believe in the future we are building together.”
The clean-up teams targeted litter and waste in central business districts, residential areas and public spaces, working alongside local authorities, the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) and residents’ associations.
But NetOne said its environmental programme extends beyond the monthly removal of litter, with the company planning to strengthen community initiatives focused on environmental awareness and education.
“Giving back to the communities that host us is not an afterthought — it is embedded in our DNA,” Luphahla said.
The campaign comes as Government pushes for improved waste management, environmental protection and climate resilience under the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) and the broader Vision 2030 agenda.
NetOne said its sustainability programmes were intended to contribute to these national objectives while strengthening partnerships between businesses, communities and public institutions.
For the telecommunications company, the message was clear: Zimbabwe’s development ambitions cannot be separated from the condition of its environment.
And on Friday, that message was carried beyond Harare — from the capital to Mutare, Masvingo and Chitungwiza, where NetOne employees joined communities in putting the clean-up message into action.
