Tip-Off Leads to Dangamvura Drug Bust, Woman Arrested

21 sachets of suspected cannabis (dagga) and five sachets of suspected crystal methamphetamin

MUTARE, DangamvuraNetsai Malunga (27) of Destiny, Dangamvura, Mutare, has been arrested after police allegedly recovered suspected cannabis and crystal methamphetamine during a raid at her residence on Friday evening.

Police confirmed the arrest, saying officers acted on a tip-off that the suspect was allegedly selling dangerous drugs from her home in the Destiny suburb of Dangamvura.

During the operation, police searched the house and reportedly recovered a black plastic bag containing 21 sachets of suspected cannabis (dagga) and five sachets of suspected crystal methamphetamine, which had been concealed in a bucket near the entrance.

A child who was at the residence when officers arrived reportedly informed police that the drugs belonged to the suspect, who was away from home at the time. The suspect was subsequently contacted by phone and asked to return to the house.

Upon her return, the woman allegedly admitted ownership of the recovered drugs before she was arrested and taken into custody for further investigations.

The recovered drugs have an estimated street value of US$30.

Confirming the arrest, ZRP Manicaland Provincial Acting Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said the suspect is assisting police with investigations.

“Police acted on information received from members of the public, leading to the recovery of suspected dangerous drugs and the arrest of the suspect. We continue to urge members of the public to report drug-related activities in their communities as we intensify the fight against drug and substance abuse,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.

The suspect is expected to appear in court facing charges related to the unlawful possession of dangerous drugs, while the recovered substances have been seized as exhibits pending forensic examination and court proceedings.
