Supporters of CAPS United F.C. and Dynamos F.C. in Chipinge joined hands with government stakeholders to take part in the national clean-up campaign aimed at promoting a clean and healthy environment.

On April 3, supporters from the Chipinge chapters of the two football giants gathered at OK Supermarket before embarking on a clean-up exercise around the town. The initiative saw fans collecting litter and clearing waste in public areas as part of the national programme held on the first Friday of every month.

The clean-up exercise was led by CAPS United Chipinge supporters’ chairperson, Tavengwa Chadura, and Dynamos Chipinge supporters’ chairperson, Taka Muchira.

Speaking during the event, Chadura said football supporters should go beyond cheering for their teams and contribute positively to community development.

“We should not only be known for supporting football, but also for supporting government programmes that improve our communities, such as keeping our surroundings clean,” he said.

Muchira echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the importance of unity despite club rivalries.

“We are rival teams, but we have joined hands to complement others in cleaning the environment. We will continue doing this so that soccer fans can also take part in keeping the environment clean,” he said.

The day’s activities ended with a tree-planting exercise at Chipinge District Hospital, where supporters from both teams planted several trees as part of efforts to promote environmental conservation and beautify the hospital environment.
