Man Nabbed with “Skunk” Dagga, Cough Syrup in Sakubva

Mutare, 1 January 2026 – The Zimbabwe Republic Police in Mutare have arrested a 41-year-old man for allegedly possessing unregistered medicines and cannabis with an estimated street value of US$200, following an operation conducted on Tuesday evening in Sakubva.

The suspect was apprehended at Block Yard Car Park at around 6:40pm on December 30, 2025. Police said the arrest followed a tip-off indicating that “the accused person was selling BronCleer cough syrup containing codeine and dagga.”

A police team deployed by the Officer-in-Charge of Sakubva reacted to the information. According to the police report, “upon arrival at Block Yard Car Park, police officers identified themselves and informed the accused person of the nature of their duties.”

Before a physical search was conducted, the suspect voluntarily produced a black satchel. Police later listed its contents as “five 100ml full bottles of BronCleer syrup, one 100ml full bottle of Benylin syrup, two 100ml bottles of Astra Pain syrup, one small weighing scale, 100 small sachets of skunk dagga, and one large sachet of dagga.”

The suspect is facing charges of “sale and/or possession of unregistered medicines” as well as “unlawful possession of dagga.” Police confirmed that all recovered exhibits were “handed over to the Charge Office under Occurrence Book number 11767/25, pending further management.”

The accused person remains in custody at ZRP Sakubva, “awaiting court referral.”
